The days of film-based movie making are on the wane. Already, more than 250 motion pictures have been produced using digital technology for theater presentation using digital projection systems, and distribution via High Definition Cable TV. A large portion of the entries at the Sundance Festival are produced and delivered on High-Definition video.

The benefits to the production community are many, beginning with lower cost of production, returning the emphasis to story-telling, and lower cost of distribution, meaning than more content can be produced and distributed for the same amount of distribution capital.
